The Collegiate
“Home of the Bulldops” Orientation iHHue
Welcome to ACC
First of all I want to welcome
your here. You're probably
going to hear that about one
hundred times today, but we all
really mean it. One of the best
things about being in summer
school, is that you get to meet
all of the freshmen to orienta
tion. By the way “Freshmen”
is not a derogatory term. We
love to see new faces here, and
with those new faces comes new
friends that we, who are already
here, will come to know and
love. It sounds a little thick with
syrup, I know, but there will be
people that you meet here, who
will bring tears to your eyes
when it's time to leave next
summer.
Well let’s get on with it.
You’re probably saying to your
self right now. Wow! Look Ma,
college. 1 made it. Surprised?
So was 1. Well, at the risk of
sounding experienced (which 1
am not nor ever will be) I too
once attended freshmen orienta
tion, and 1 might add, that in
spite of the fact that I had no
idea of what I was getting
myself into, I have overcome
those unknows and I am still
filling space here at ACC.
1 have just a few of those
non-experienced experienced
tips to help you get through the
trauma of orientation.
One: Don’t go out tonight and
explore Wilson's entertainment Ay
facilities. It’s not that we don’t
want you to have a good time,
nay. we want you to have a good
and thouroughly enjoyable
two day vacation. It's just that
there will be a lot of information
that you will be expected to
retain, and this will be impossi
ble if you are sleeping through
the presentations.
Two: Although you may be
come bored at times, take heart.

SGA is here for You
Upon entering ACC you will
become a part not only of the
college, but also of the Student
Government Association. Your
“dues” automatically give you a
voice in the association. A ma
jority of the officers were elec
ted last spring in which the
incoming students had no voice.
Therefore, you have nothing to
do? Wrong!
Your membership in the SGA
allows many opportunities and
privileges. These can best be
I shown by explaining the struc
ture and functions of the SGA.
The executive offices of the
SGA are president, vice presi
dent, secretary and treasurer.
The president is a student
representative on many admini
strative committees as well as
the Board of Trustees for the
i college. He or she appoints
j members and chairpersons to
5 the various executive commit-
< ees, elections; publicity; bud
get; entertainment and the Stu
dent Center.
The Entertainment and Stu
dent Center Committee is the
SGA body that students are
most familiar with. This commi
ttee provides both for enter
tainment and educational events
for the ACC student body.
The Elections Committee is
responsible for directing SGA
elections, in which you will be in
volved when electing officers
this fall. Why don't you run for
an office?
Any detailed information may
be obtained by reading the SGA
constitution in the Student Hand
book or by consulting with an
SGA officer. The office is in
downstairs Hardy Alumni Hall.
This article can by no means be
adequate in informing you of
your SGA.
The vice president acts as the
chairperson for the SGA Senate.
The Senate is made up of the
class officers.
The secretary of the SGA has
a large amount of minutes and
correspondance to deal with. He
or she also serves as chair
person of the Publicity Com
mittee which publicizes the
events taking place within the
SGA.
The treasurer's duty is to
insure appropriation of funds
among the budgeted organiza
tions and clubs on campus. The
organizations include the CCA.
The CoUegiate, The Pine Knot,
the executive and legislative
branches of the SGA,the classes
and the Day Student Associ
ation.
Some of the responsibilities of
the SGA are the chartering of
clubs and organizations, plan
ning special events and hope
fully solving grievances on
school policies when they arise.

The Student Center is a part
of the Student Union Committee

students' leisure time. It is
essentially a place for students
to relax and meet other people.
